How Does Our Prolapsed Disc Treatment Benefit You?

Disc prolapse, also known as slipped disc or herniated disc causes sudden and severe lower back pain. In this condition, the nerve root is pressed by disc that causes severe pain and other symptoms in legs. It may also be causes due to inflammation in the prolapsed part of the disc that may irritate the nerve and cause swelling that may put pressure on the nerve. The disc prolapse or slipped disc is caused due to job involving lifting of heavy weights, long hours of sitting or driving, smoking, obesity, age, etc.
According to ayurveda, slip disc is caused due to vitiation of Vata dosha. When Vata dosha is vitiated, it leads to accumulation of ama in the body that gets seated in the joints and cause inflammation. When this happens, it leads to severe pain, nerve compression and swelling.
Thus, the ayurvedic treatment of slip disc focuses on reversal of vitiated doshas- i.e. vata dosha. The treatment involves detoxification and rejuvenation therapies like abhayanga swedam, nasyam, pathrapotala swedam, choornapinda swedam, pizhichil, shirodhara, kadeevasthya, greevavsthy, vasti, etc. These therapies help to relieve the inflammatory changes, releases the spasms and nerve compressions in the affected area, strengthens the supportive tissues holding spin and nourishes joints by improving blood circulation. This line of treatment helps to reverse the condition in complete natural way.

Stages of Disc Prolapse

1. Disc dehydration: This is the stage at which the disc's outer layer weakens and the fibers around the disc become free. This causes the disc to flatten, with a loss in height and an
increase in diameter. This is known as a bulge.
2. Disc prolapse: This is a condition in which the annulus fibrosis fractures and the soft center of the disc begins to break through the outer layer. When this happens, the prolapsed
portion of the disc tends to contact the adjacent nerves, causing pain and other symptoms.
3. Disc extrusion: At this time, portion of the protruded nucleus pulposus begins to push through the disc's outer layer and becomes detached.
4. Disc sequestration: At this point, a free portion of the nucleus pulposus (the deepest component of the disc) enters the spinal canal.
