How Does Our MCTD: Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder Treatment Benefit You?

Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder (MCTD), also known as overlap disease, shows collective symptoms of conditions like- primary lupus, Myositis, scleroderma, and polymyositis. In some cases, individuals may acquire Sjogren’s syndrome. It is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the fibers that provide support to the body. The symptoms of MCTD are- Cold and numb fingers or toes, swollen fingers or hands, muscle & joint pain, rashes, etc.
According to Ayurveda, the MCTD condition is the result of Amavata and Vatarakta. This is due to the disturbance of the autoimmune system of the body. Amavata (Rheumatoid Arthritis)is a condition in which Vata dosha is vitiated and gets accumulated in joints. Vatarakta is a condition in which Vata dosha is imbalanced and affects Rakta dhatu. These conditions together promote the accumulation of toxins in the body leading to inflammatory changes in the vasculature of the connective tissue.
The ayurvedic approach to treating MCTD is by eliminating toxins from the body. This process involves therapies like Vamana, Virechana, Rasayana Prayoga, Raktamokshana, etc. The treatment is associated with the intake of herbs like- Ashwagandha, Haridra, etc. that are known to boost the immune system & Ojas. These herbs along with therapies help in eliminating toxins from the body and restoring normal healing and functioning of the body. This line of treatment helps to reverse the condition of MCTD in a completely natural way.

Unlike other treatment procedures that jump straight to symptom management, we address the root-cause of the disease.

Understand how we can help you with MCDT

Causes of MCTD

Despite the fact that the origin is unknown, mixed connective tissue disease is an autoimmune condition. Your immune system, which is in charge of fending off illness, mistakenly targets healthy cells in autoimmune diseases.
Your immune system attacks the fibers that provide your body structure and stability when you have a connective tissue illness. Some sufferers of mixed connective tissue disease have a history of the illness in their families. But it's still unknown how genetics play a part in the illness.
Other potential reasons include exposure to certain viruses or chemicals like polyvinyl chloride and silica.

Symptoms of MCDT

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle & Joint Pain
  • Low-grade fever
  • Raynaud Phenomenon that causes numbness, sensitivity, and lack of blood circulation in fingers, toes, ears, and nose
  • Swollen fingers
  • Thin fingers with hardened skin and limited movement
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Acute arthritis
  • Aseptic meningitis
  • Myelitis
  • Gangrene
  • Abdominal pain
  • Neuropathy affecting the trigeminal nerve

Complications associated with MCTD

  1. Pulmonary hypertension: This condition can be fatal in individuals with MCTD
  2. Interstitial lung disease: This leads to scarring of the lungs, which affects the ability to breathe
  3. Heart disease: The heart itself may expand in some places or experience inflammation. Heart failure is possible.
  4. Kidney damage: The kidneys are involved in around one-fourth of persons with mixed connective tissue disease. Renal involvement is often modest, but it can result in kidney failure.
  5. Digestive tract damage: The digestive system is impacted by mixed connective tissue disease. You may experience stomach aches as well as difficulties eating and digesting meals.
  6. Anemia: Iron deficiency anemia affects around 75% of persons with mixed connective tissue disorder.
  7. Hearing loss: Individuals with mixed connective tissue disease reported hearing loss in nearly half of the cases.
  8. Nerve damage: The nerve that transmits feeling from your face to your brain can be impacted by Sjogren syndrome (trigeminal nerve). When you have trigeminal neuralgia, even minor facial stimulation, such as when you wash your teeth or put on cosmetics, can cause intense pain.

Ayurveda on MCTD

Ayurveda treats the root cause of the disease. MCTD is an autoimmune disease that is caused due to accumulation of Ama in the body. This ama is accumulated due to vitiation of doshas and weak digestive fire- Agni. This in turn leads to low Ojas.

Root Cause Treatment

“The ayurvedic approach of disease looks for the root cause and not merely the symptoms. The basic principles of Ayurveda consider an individual human a specific identity and hence his treatment giving importance to the treatment of the patient rather than the treatment of the disease.”

Wisdom of Ayurveda

“Since Ayurveda focuses on the root-cause of the disease, it effectively reduces the risk of severe health complications arising out of the untreated underlying cause. Patients who complete their Ayurveda treatment have a reduced risk of health complications later.”
