How Does Our Sarcoidosis Treatment Benefit You?

Sarcoidosis is a condition in which there is growth of tiny collections of inflammatory granulomas in any part of the body. The most common body parts are lungs and lymph nodes and can also affect eyes, skin, heart and other organs. The symptoms of sarcoidosis are fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, weight loss, pain and swelling in joints, dry cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, lesions on nose, scarring, blurred vision, severe redness, eye pain, fainting, edema, etc. this can be caused due to genetic disposition that is triggered by bacterial or viral attack. This causes a reaction in the body that fights against itself causing sarcoidosis.
Sarcoidosis primarily impacts lymph nodes which is a place where Kapha dosha exists. But, when pitta dosha starts affecting the lymph nodes, Kapha dosha is vitiated and lymph nodes lose their nature. This leads to hardening of lymph nodes. Further, as Kapha dosha deteriorates in the lung region, the Vata dosha dries it off and leads to fibrosis of lungs. Further, inflammation at cellular level is caused as the cells are being covered with Ama, which is caused due to low Agni and low Ojas.
Thus, while treating sarcoidosis in ayurveda, it is important to pacify the effects of vitiated doshas and boost Agni and Ojas. The treatment involves intake of herbal formulations like guluchyadi kashyam, ashwagandha rasayana, triphala guggul, kaishore guggul, shallaki vati, haridrakhandam, tulsi ghan vati, etc. It is also accompanied by panchakarma therapies that help in elimination of ama from the body and restoring the functioning of Agni and Ojas. A proper diet and exercise regimen are also suggested to boost metabolism and elimination of ama from the body. This line of treatment helps in reversal of the condition in a holistic way.

Types of sarcoidosis

  1. Pulmonary sarcoidosis: Shortness of breath, a chronic cough, chest discomfort, and wheezing are all symptoms of granulomas, which can affect normal lung function. Sarcoidosis-related inflammation can cause scarring and lasting damage to the lungs, leading to issues including bronchiectasis.
  2. Ocular sarcoidosis: Ocular sarcoidosis is a disorder that affects the eyes or surrounding tissues and affects up to three-quarters of patients. The most frequent symptom is uveitis, or inflammation of the iris and surrounding tissues, which varies depending on which regions of the eye are affected.
  3. Neuro-sarcoidosis: The condition is called neuro-sarcoidosis because it develops granulomas in and around the nervous system. The hypothalamus and Pituitary glands, which produce hormones, are the most usually affected areas of the brain. This can cause issues such as changes in female patients' menstrual cycles, diabetes, and excessive hormone production.
  4. Cardiac sarcoidosis: The illness is known as cardiac sarcoidosis when sarcoidosis affects the heart. The granulomas in cardiac sarcoidosis interfere with the electrical signals that cause the heart muscle to contract. As a result, the most common symptom of this kind is an irregular heartbeat, also known as arrhythmia, which can cause palpitations.
  5. Musculoskeletal sarcoidosis: Sarcoidosis of the musculoskeletal system is an uncommon disease that affects the bones, muscles, and joints. Arthritis-like symptoms can be caused by joint inflammation, which can limit a patient's range of motion and cause discomfort. The feet, ankles, and knees are the most typically afflicted areas.
  6. Cutaneous sarcoidosis: Granulomas arise in the skin in cutaneous sarcoidosis, while certain nonspecific skin lesions can develop without them. The location and appearance of granuloma-containing skin lesions determine their categorization. The most prevalent skin ailment in sarcoidosis is erythema nodosum, which is characterized by acute painful red lumps on the lower legs or arms, as well as joint discomfort, exhaustion, and fever.
  7. Renal sarcoidosis: This affects kidneys, which if left untreated causes scarring of tissues of the kidney and leads to permanent damage- kidney failure.
  8. Hepatic sarcoidosis: this affects the liver, which is caused due to abnormal levels of liver enzymes. In rare cases it may cause liver cirrhosis. The symptoms of this condition are fatigue, fever and joint pain.
  9. Spleen and bone marrow sarcoidosis: Both these conditions lead to cytopenia, and causes other symptoms like fatigue, weight loss, night sweats, and pain.
  10. Lofgren syndrome: Lofgren syndrome is an acute and milder variant of sarcoidosis that is characterized by erythema nodosum, swelling of the hilar lymph nodes (placed in the middle of the chest), fever, and joint discomfort that travels from one joint to another. Uveitis may accompany these symptoms.
