How Does Our Atherosclerosis Treatment Benefit You?

Atherosclerosis is a type of arteriosclerosis in which fats, cholesterol and other substances builds-up in the artery walls. This build-up is known as plaque, which causes narrowing of arteries and blocks the blood flow. This can also turn into a blood clot after the plaque is burst. This condition can be caused anywhere in the arteries of the body, and can be treated. The symptoms of this condition are- chest pain and pressure; numbness and weakness in arms or legs; difficulty in speaking; temporary loss of vision; high blood pressure; kidney failure; etc. Atherosclerosis is caused due to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, inflammation, obesity, diabetes, etc.
‘Dhamanipratichaya’ is the term for atherosclerosis in ayurvedic text. Atherosclerosis condition is caused due to vitiation of Kapha dosha. When kapha dosha is vitiated, it enhances accumulation of ama in the body, which then affects circulation (Vyana Vayu). The accumulation of Kapha dosha affects the meda dhatu and meda dhatu agni, thus leading to decrease in metabolic function at dhatu level. This decrease leads to excess of meda dhatu as subcutaneous fat or fat that surrounds organs. This excess of meda dhatu encroaches rakta dhatu and gets accumulated in rakta vaha srotas and begins to block Vyana vayu that carries blood from heart to peripheral tissues. Due to this blockage, blood pressure increases, leading to atherosclerosis.
Thus, when treating atherosclerosis, it is important to eliminate the root cause of the problem, which in this case is accumulation of Ama and vitiation of doshas. This is done by detoxification therapy of panchakarma. It is accompanied by intake of certain herbs like turmeric, cinnamon, arjuna, ashwagandha, brahmi, shankhpushpi, etc. these herbs tend to strengthen heart muscles and help clearing obstructions from blood channels. The entire procedure is also accompanied by a balanced diet and exercise regimen that help to pacify the effects of doshas and stop further accumulation of ama in the channels. This condition can be successfully reversed in a completely natural and holistic way.

Causes of Atherosclerosis

  1. High blood pressure
  2. High cholesterol
  3. High triglycerides
  4. Excessive smoking
  5. Obesity

  9. Lack of exercise
  10. Unhealthy diet

Complications of Atherosclerosis

  1. Coronary artery disease: This is a kind of cardiovascular illness. Coronary artery disease can occur when atherosclerosis narrows the arteries around your heart, causing chest discomfort (angina), a heart attack, or heart failure.
  2. Carotid artery disease: Carotid artery disease develops when atherosclerosis narrows the arteries near the brain, causing a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke.
  3. Coronary artery disease: When atherosclerosis narrows the arteries in your arms or legs, you may develop peripheral artery disease, which causes circulation difficulties in your arms and legs. This might make you less sensitive to heat and cold, making you more vulnerable to burns or frostbite. Poor circulation of blood in your arms or legs may trigger tissue decay and its death in rare circumstances (gangrene).
  4. Aneurysms: Aneurysms are a significant consequence of atherosclerosis that can arise anywhere in the body. An aneurysm is a protrusion in the artery's wall.
  5. Chronic renal disease: Chronic renal disease is a condition that affects the kidneys. The arteries leading to your kidneys might constrict due to atherosclerosis, preventing oxygenated blood from reaching them. This can affect the functioning of the kidney and over a time may prevent waste leaving the body.
