Effectively Heal Gastritis

Why EliteAyurveda

How are we able to Treat Gastritis

Gastritis is an inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the lining of the stomach. It can occur suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic). According to Ayurveda, gastritis is caused due to an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which leads to the production of excess gastric acid and inflammation in the stomach lining.

Ayurveda considers gastritis as a condition resulting from the aggravation of Pitta dosha. This leads to excessive secretion of gastric acid and inflammation in the stomach lining. Acharya Charaka in Charaka Samhita, Sutra Sthana, 20/11 mentions:

"Pitta prakopad vidagdham pittam jathyascha pitheshmadhyath" - Aggravation of Pitta dosha leads to inflammatory conditions in the digestive tract.

This shloka explains that conditions like gastritis are related to dosha imbalances and can be managed by pacifying these doshas.

“ ‘Amlapitta’ is the term for gastritis in ayurveda. In this condition the main dosha that is vitiated is Pitta dosha, and the person starts getting a sour erection, burning in the chest, and also indigestion. The pitta dosha gets aggravated which leads to irritable symptoms of gastritis, and is caused due to intake of fermented food, spices, fried food, tobacco, etc.
The treatment for gastritis in ayurveda focuses on elimination of the root cause of the condition, which in this case is aggravation of Pitta dosha. Ayurvedic therapies like abhyanga, vamana, virechana, etc. are used in the gastritis condition. Further, some herbal formulations are also provided that help in pacifying the effects of Pitta dosha. These herbs include- bilwa, amalaki, shatavari, yashtimadhu, bhringraj, etc. This line of treatment helps in complete reversal of gastritis via a holistic approach.

Understand how we can help you with Gastritis ..

What is Gastritis?

Gastritis is an inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the lining of the stomach. It can occur suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic). Common symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.

Types of gastritis

  1. Erosive gastritis: It is also known as reactive gastritis in which the stomach lining is inflamed and also gets erosive. The causes for erosive gastritis include- excessive intake of alcohol, smoking, NSAIDs, corticosteroids, viral or bacterial infections. In some cases it may also be manifested due to stress and some injuries.
  2. Non-erosive gastritis: In this condition, the lining of the stomach is inflamed and is not erosive.

Treatment

The treatment for Gastritis at EliteAyurveda includes:

As the root cause of it lies in dosha imbalances and inflammation, they are rectified, and Gastritis is managed with a treatment plan that includes detoxification by Ayurveda external therapies to remove Ama from the body, intake of herbal medications to balance the doshas, maintaining a proper diet and exercise regimen, and external application of herbal lepa or oils to reduce inflammation and promote healing. This approach helps in managing the condition from its root cause and prevents recurrence.

According to ayurveda, the duodenum which is the part of the intestine, is the place where all the three doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha, are found. It also acts as the seat for Agni. When there is imbalance in doshas, the effect is exerted on Agni, which then leads to Amlapitta (gastritis).

The treatment involves following steps:

  1. Abhyanga: It involves application of herbs to the body to stimulate the immune system and prevents gastritis caused due to infections.
  2. Vamana: It is a panchakarma procedure in which a person is administered herbs that induce vomiting. It aids in treating indigestion, poisoning and inflammation of the stomach.
  3. Virechana: it involves intake of herbs that induce purgation and evacuate the bowel. This adds on to the cleansing of the body and clearing up ama. This is primarily used in elimination of aggravated Pitta dosha.
  4. Along with above procedures, some herbs are recommended that boost the digestive system, enhance the nourishment of tissues in the body, settle Agni and reverse the condition of gastritis.

Causes

Gastritis can be caused by various factors including infection with Helicobacter pylori, excessive alcohol consumption, prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and stress. According to Ayurveda, the main cause is the imbalance of Pitta dosha.

Stages

Gastritis can be classified into acute and chronic gastritis based on the duration and severity of symptoms. Acute gastritis occurs suddenly and is usually temporary, while chronic gastritis develops slowly and can last for months or years if not treated properly.
