Sacroiliitis is an inflammatory condition in which one or more sacroiliac joints are inflamed. These joints are situated where the lower spine and pelvis connects. The symptoms of Sacroiliitis are- pain
in buttocks and lower back, pain in legs, groin and feet. Sacroiliitis is caused due to prolonged standing, bearing more weight on one leg, running, taking long strides and excessive stair climbing. It
can also be caused due to medical conditions like traumatic injury, arthritis, pregnancy and infections in which sacroiliac joints are affected.
According to ayurveda, Sacroiliitis is caused due to aggravation of Kapha and Vata dosha. When these doshas are aggravated, they lead to accumulation of ama in the joints that causes pain. This
accumulation of ama and aggravation of doshas is due to unhealthy diet, heavy exercising, stress, and alcohol abuse.
Thus, in order to treat Sacroiliitis, it is important to reverse the effects of accumulated ama and balance the vitiated doshas. This is done by ayurvedic therapies like Udwartana, sarvanga
abhayanga, shashtika shaali pinda sweda, patra potali sweda and vasti. Along with this treatment, proper diet and exercise routine are suggested to promote healing and stop further vitiation of
doshas. When the causative factor includes stress, the treatment also involves psychological support that is essential to maintain patients’ quality of life. This line of treatment helps to reverse the
condition in complete natural way.

The condition of Sacroiliitis is common in pregnant women because, during pregnancy the hip and sacroiliac joints loosen naturally. This is due to the fact that body tries to prepare female body for birth and this is also the reason why women have change in walking style. In this condition the sacroiliac joints become inflamed leading to Sacroiliitis.
Physical therapy is of great advantage in the condition of Sacroiliitis, as it enhances flexibility and strength of sacroiliac joints. It helps to improve range of motion and build stability. The physical therapy may include stretching and strengthening exercises for muscles of lower back that will help to support your hips and pelvis.
A spinal disc issue is not a one-time event; rather, it is the result of a series of changes in the disc that eventually lead to rupture or degeneration. These modifications include the following:
“The ayurvedic approach of disease looks for the root cause and not merely the symptoms. The basic principles of Ayurveda consider an individual human a specific identity and hence his treatment giving importance to the treatment of the patient rather than the treatment of the disease.”
“Since Ayurveda focuses on the root-cause of the disease, it effectively reduces the risk of severe health complications arising out of the untreated underlying cause. Patients who complete their Ayurveda treatment have a reduced risk of health complications later.”
