‘Klama’ is the term for fatigue in ayurvedic text, which can be caused by doing any kind of work, i.e. work exhaustion (shrama). In these conditions a person may feel heaviness and also lose interest in any kind of work. This condition is caused due to accumulation of Kapha dosha in the body and indigestion, which leads to accumulation of Ama. Moreover, this condition is also caused due to vitiation of Vata and Pitta dosha:
Thus, the treatment for fatigue in ayurveda concentrates on eliminating ama from the body and balancing the vitiated doshas. This includes consuming a diet that pacifies the effect of respective dosha and boosts digestion. Along with this, yoga and exercise regimen are suggested to reduce fatigue. Some herbal medications are also provided that help in boosting the digestion process and relieve lethargy. In case of obstruction of ama in the body, detoxification therapy like panchakarma are employed in order to clear the ama in the channels and enhance the blood flow along with the vital energy- Ojas. “The ayurvedic approach of disease looks for the root cause and not merely the symptoms. The basic principles of Ayurveda consider an individual human a specific identity and hence his treatment giving importance to the treatment of the patient rather than the treatment of the disease.”
“Since Ayurveda focuses on the root-cause of the disease, it effectively reduces the risk of severe health complications arising out of the untreated underlying cause. Patients who complete their Ayurveda treatment have a reduced risk of health complications later.”
