How are we able to Treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a feeling of fear, dread and uneasiness; which is a reaction to stress. This may cause a person to sweat, feel restless and tense, accompanied with raised heart rate. For some people this feeling may be normal and important for making quick decisions; but for some people this may be overwhelming. The causes of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder are genetics, over stress, over-thinking, brain biology & chemistry, etc. During Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, a person may feel shortness of breath, changes in behavior, rapid heart-beat, unexplained pains, nausea, etc.

Types of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder disorders

  1. Generalized Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder disorder (GAD): This condition is normal when a person is over occupied with tension regarding health, money, relationships, work and family. Even little things provoke over response to feelings.
  2. Panic disorder: It is a type of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder disorder that is characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of excessive fear, which is accompanied by physical symptoms that include chest pain, heart palpitations, and shortness of breath, dizziness or abdominal discomfort.
  3. Phobias: Also known as social phobia, is an Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder condition marked by intense self-consciousness and overwhelming Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in daily social interactions. Social phobia can be restricted to a single circumstance - such as a fear of speaking in official or informal settings, or of eating or drinking in front of others - or, in its most extreme form, can manifest itself nearly wherever a person is among other people.
  4. Post-Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD): PTSD is an Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder condition that can develop after being exposed to a traumatic incident or encounter in which significant bodily injury happened or was threatened. Violent Personal attacks, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military conflicts are all examples of traumatic events that can lead to PTSD.
  5. Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD): OCD is an Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder condition marked by recurring, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive activities (compulsions). Hand washing, counting, checking, and cleaning are common repetitive habits conducted in the hopes of preventing or removing obsessive thoughts. However, executing these so-called "rituals" only gives momentary respite, and failing to do so significantly increases Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Ayurvedic Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder disorder therapy provides a holistic approach to an individual's physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. These qualities have an influence on prana vata, a vata dosha subtype that is worsened by stress, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and depression. Prana vata causes mental imbalance by weakening the nerve system. The neuro-hormonal system and nerve impulses are also weakened. Ayurvedic therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder disorder would entail reducing aggravated prana vata and boosting sattva guna, which entails self-realization and self-control, as well as proper dietary and lifestyle adjustments.
The line of treatment involves Nidana parivarjana, Panchakarma procedures followed by samana chikitsa, which involves procedures like- abhyanga, snehapana, shiro abhyanga, shirovasti, shirodhara, Pichu, takra dhara, nasya karma, etc. This is accompanied by the yogic practices that help in clearing the emotional ama and proper counseling does reverse the process of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder easily.
