Why EliteAyurveda

How Does Our Respiratory Allergies Treatment Benefit You?

Respiratory allergies are caused due to proteins present in air that is inhaled, and triggers the respiratory tract inflammation. This can be due to a specific allergy or a reaction to specific irritants present in air like smoke, fumes, dust, etc. that tend to aggravate the allergic symptoms. The causes of respiratory tract allergies can be dust, pollen, pet allergens, humidity, mite feces, climatic changes, etc. These factors may lead to asthma, respiratory tract irritation, runny nose, sore throat, watery eyes, itchiness, etc.
‘Shwasa roga’ or ‘Shwasa Krichrata’ are the terms for respiratory allergies in ayurvedic text. This is caused due to vitiation of Kapha dosha, which obstructs the passage of prana vayu, and starts moving upwards, causing disturbance in normal psychological functions. According to ayurveda, it is caused due to two main reasons- i. genetics; ii. Imbalance in tridoshas. These factors are triggered due to accumulation of ama, high amounts of allergens in the body, disturbed state of dhatu and Agni, chest injury, etc. This causes blockages in channels of pranavaha srotas and obstructs the flow of vata. This vata is mixed with accumulated kapha dosha and causes respiratory allergies.
The treatment of respiratory allergies in ayurveda focuses on elimination of these toxins and balancing of vitiated doshas. This is done by various therapies like- Vamana and Virechana. These therapies help in cleaning the body and elimination of toxins that accumulate in the nasal route. The treatment is also associated with intake of oral medications that help in building immunity, avoid recurrence, re-establishes the normal functioning of the body and helps to fight disease for long term. A well balanced diet and exercise regimen along with breathing and yoga practices are recommended to promote quick healing. This line of treatment helps in reversal of conditions in a natural and holistic way.

Causes of respiratory allergies

  • Pollen: Seasonal allergic rhinitis, sometimes known as hay fever, is an allergic reaction to pollen. It inflames and swells the lining of your nose as well as the protecting tissue around your eyes (conjunctiva). Sneezing, congestion (feeling stuffy), and itchy, watery eyes, nose, and mouth are all symptoms.
  • Dust mites: Dust mites are microscopic creatures that dwell in dust and the fibers of home items including pillows, mattresses, carpet, and upholstery. Dust mites thrive in warm, humid environments. Sneezing, congestion (feeling stuffy), and itchy, watery eyes, nose, and mouth are all symptoms.
  • Molds: Molds are small fungus (like Penicillium) with pollen-like spores that float in the air. Mold is a frequent allergen trigger. Mold may be found both indoors and outdoors, in wet locations such as the basement, kitchen, or bathroom, as well as in grass, leaf heaps, hay, mulch, or under mushrooms.
  • Animal danger: Proteins released by sweat glands in an animal's skin and shed in danger, as well as proteins in an animal's saliva, can induce allergic responses.
  • Latex: After repeated contact with latex, some people acquire a latex allergy. Rubber gloves, such as those used in surgery or household cleaning, are a primary cause of this response. If you have a latex allergy, you may have skin rash, hives, eye tearing and irritation, wheezing, and itching of the skin.
  • Food allergies: Food allergies occur when your body produces an antibody to a specific food. An allergic response starts minutes after ingesting the item, and the symptoms might be severe. The most frequent food allergies in adults are shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts. They include milk, eggs, soy, wheat, shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts in youngsters. Itching, hives, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulties, and swelling around your mouth are all indications of a food allergy.
  • Insect stings: A typical reaction to a bee stung is pain, swelling, and redness surrounding the sting site. Swelling that goes beyond the sting site is a sign of a severe, local response. In serious cases the symptoms include- shortness of breath, swelling of mouth and throat, wheezing and difficulty swallowing, rapid pulse, dizziness, etc.

Symptoms of respiratory allergies:

  1. Mild responses include local symptoms (symptoms that affect only one part of your body), such as a rash or hives, itching, watery/red eyes, hay fever, and a runny nose. Mild responses are not contagious and do not spread to other regions of your body.
  2. Moderate responses are characterized by symptoms that extend to other regions of your body. Itching, hives, swelling, and difficulty breathing are all possible symptoms.
  3. Severe allergic reaction; anaphylaxis is a rare, life-threatening emergency in which your body's reaction to the allergen is immediate and affects the entire body. Anaphylaxis might start with acute itching of the eyes or cheeks. Within minutes, more significant symptoms emerge, including as throat swelling (which may cause swallowing and breathing difficulties), stomach discomfort, cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, and swelling (angioedema).
