Eczema, or Vicharchika in Ayurveda, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition marked by redness, itching, dryness, and recurrent flare-ups. Ayurveda recognizes it not as a superficial disorder but as a systemic imbalance where aggravated Pitta and Kapha doshas, combined with Ama (toxic metabolic waste), vitiate the Rakta (blood) and Twak (skin) tissues. The result is hypersensitivity of the skin, disrupted immunity, and chronic inflammation that manifests externally.
The root of eczema lies deep within—impaired digestion, weakened liver function, emotional stress, and disturbed circadian rhythm all contribute to the doshic imbalance that inflames the skin. This is why topical creams or immunosuppressants only offer temporary relief, while the underlying pathology continues unchecked.
Acharya Sushruta in Sushruta Samhita, Sutrasthana 24/13, mentions:
“Kushtani dvidha – ekadoshajani bahudoshascha” — Skin disorders arise from either single or multiple doshic imbalances.
This classical insight clarifies that chronic eczema is typically tridoshaja in nature — primarily Pitta-Kapha aggravated, with Vata playing a secondary role during chronic dry or cracked phases.
At EliteAyurveda, our eczema reversal program focuses on restoring balance at the systemic and tissue levels through a phase-wise, individualized protocol:

“The ayurvedic approach of disease looks for the root cause and not merely the symptoms. The basic principles of Ayurveda consider an individual human a specific identity and hence his treatment giving importance to the treatment of the patient rather than the treatment of the disease.”
“Since Ayurveda focuses on the root-cause of the disease, it effectively reduces the risk of severe health complications arising out of the untreated underlying cause. Patients who complete their Ayurveda treatment have a reduced risk of health complications later.”
"Heal your body naturally with 5000-year-old knowledge of Ayurveda and Modern Science. From its authenticity, structured approach and personalisation play a very important role in complementing the effect of medicines as well as sustaining the benefit of treatment after the medicines have ended."
Eczema, or Atopic Dermatitis, is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by itching, redness, dryness, and recurrent flare-ups. It arises from a hypersensitive immune response and a weakened skin barrier that fails to retain moisture. In Ayurveda, it closely resembles Vicharchika — one of the Kshudra Kushtha — caused by the vitiation of Pitta and Kapha doshas in the presence of accumulated Ama (metabolic toxins) and impaired Agni (digestive fire).
This imbalance results in the contamination of Rakta dhatu (blood tissue) and obstruction of Twak Srotas (skin channels), leading to chronic itching, oozing, and inflammation. Ayurveda views Eczema not as a surface problem but as a deep systemic disorder involving immunity, digestion, and emotional balance.
In Eczema, Pitta aggravation manifests as redness, burning, and inflammation, while Kapha dominance contributes to oozing, thickening, and stickiness of the lesions. Ama generated from improper digestion circulates in the bloodstream, aggravating Rakta dhatu and initiating immune hypersensitivity.
The result is a cyclical pattern of flare-ups, dryness, and intense itching. The Ayurvedic approach emphasizes Agni deepana (digestive correction), Ama pachana (toxin neutralization), Rakta shodhana (blood purification), and restoration of doshic balance to heal from within and prevent recurrence.
Eczema of this type is the most severe and long-lasting one. When scratched, the skin becomes irritated and may split, releasing a clear fluid (an effect known as "weeping"). The people with atopic dermatitis experience flares in which the symptoms worsen and intensify the condition.
The skin becomes red and itchy as a result of a localized skin response to wastes in the environment. Irritation contact eczema occurs when the skin reacts quickly to irritants such as chemicals (acids, cleaning agents, soaps, etc.), abrasion, or heat. Often, the skin reacts slowly (48 to 96 hours) after coming into contact with a foreign material or one to which you've developed an allergy, such as poison ivy, nickel, or latex – this is known as allergic contact eczema.
It is recognized by small blisters on hands and feet, especially palms, fingers and soles. These can be very itchy and often affect sleep and work time.
It is also known as scalp eczema, which is recognized by white or yellow scaly patches of skin which develop in oily areas like scalp, face, ears and groin. Microorganisms that live on skin like yeast, contribute to this condition.
The round spots or coin-shaped lesions that occur as a rash on the arms, legs, or trunk of the body are characteristic of this irritating and inflammatory skin disorder. Small blisters and scabs are common side effects of nummular eczema. The elderly people are more likely to develop nummular dermatitis, commonly known as discoid eczema.
At EliteAyurveda, we approach Eczema through a structured, individualized healing process that targets the underlying metabolic and immune dysfunctions instead of merely managing skin irritation. The treatment aims to rebuild skin health and internal equilibrium.
Topical steroids, antihistamines, and moisturizers used in conventional care provide temporary relief but do not address the underlying immune or metabolic dysfunction. Prolonged use may weaken skin integrity, cause steroid-dependence, and worsen post-withdrawal flare-ups.
Ayurveda, on the other hand, works by reestablishing the body’s natural detoxification, digestion, and immune regulation. Once these systems function optimally, the skin naturally regains its barrier strength and immunity, eliminating the need for suppressive medications.
Patients at EliteAyurveda report significant reduction in itching, redness, and oozing within weeks, followed by gradual improvement in skin texture, hydration, and resilience. The healing extends beyond the skin — patients also experience better digestion, energy, emotional balance, and improved sleep quality.
As Agni stabilizes and Ama is eliminated, recurrence frequency and severity drop drastically. The restored internal balance prevents hypersensitive reactions, leading to long-term remission and naturally radiant, healthy skin.
At EliteAyurveda, our distinction lies in creating personalized healing blueprints based on each patient’s Prakriti, doshic involvement, and emotional patterns. Every Eczema treatment plan evolves dynamically — aligning herbs, diet, therapies, and mind-body practices to the recovery stage.
This holistic, root-cause-centered model ensures not just symptom relief but complete restoration of the body’s healing intelligence. Our patients regain not only clear skin but also a stronger gut, stable immunity, and lasting emotional harmony.
Our Ayurvedic treatment for Eczema focuses on long-term healing by restoring balance within the body and mind. Below are some common questions our patients ask before starting their recovery journey at EliteAyurveda.
Eczema, or Atopic Dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition characterized by dryness, itching, redness, and inflammation. In Ayurveda, it is classified under “Kushta Roga,” caused by the imbalance of the three doshas—primarily Pitta and Kapha—leading to vitiation of the Rakta (blood) and Mamsa (muscle) dhatus and accumulation of Ama (toxins).
Ayurveda attributes Eczema to poor digestion, accumulation of Ama (toxins), impaired liver function, and exposure to allergens or irritants. Stress, poor dietary habits, and suppression of natural urges also contribute by aggravating Pitta and Kapha doshas, leading to inflammation and skin hypersensitivity.
Common symptoms include dry, itchy, and inflamed skin, red patches, scaling, oozing, and sometimes cracking. In chronic stages, the skin may become thickened and discolored due to repeated scratching and inflammation.
The major types include Atopic Dermatitis, Contact Dermatitis, Dyshidrotic Eczema, Seborrheic Dermatitis, and Nummular Eczema. Each has different triggers and presentations but shares a common inflammatory and immune dysfunction origin that Ayurveda addresses holistically.
Yes, Ayurveda aims for complete reversal by addressing the root cause, not just the surface symptoms. At EliteAyurveda, the treatment plan purifies the blood, restores gut health, balances the immune system, and strengthens the skin barrier—leading to sustainable, long-term healing.
Conventional medicine relies on steroids, antihistamines, and immunosuppressants to manage symptoms. Ayurveda, on the other hand, treats the underlying imbalance in digestion, immunity, and metabolism through personalized herbal formulations, detoxification, and lifestyle corrections for a lasting cure without side effects.
The healing timeline depends on chronicity, severity, and adherence to the prescribed regimen. Most patients notice significant improvement in itching, dryness, and flare frequency within 4–8 weeks, with deeper skin and immune recovery achieved over several months.
Avoid spicy, oily, fermented, processed foods, dairy, and refined sugars, as these aggravate Pitta and Kapha. Instead, consume fresh, light, and easily digestible meals rich in seasonal vegetables and whole grains to promote better digestion and detoxification.
Yes. Stress disturbs hormonal and immune balance, aggravating Vata and Pitta doshas, which triggers inflammation and itching. Ayurveda addresses emotional detox and stress management through mind-calming herbs, meditation, and guided therapies to maintain balance.
Yes. When untreated or poorly managed, Eczema can spread or appear in new areas due to systemic inflammation and toxin accumulation. Our Ayurvedic approach prevents recurrence by purifying the blood and strengthening internal systems, not just topical relief.
Gut health is central to Eczema management. Poor digestion leads to Ama formation and immune overreaction. Ayurveda works by strengthening Agni (digestive fire), detoxifying the liver, and improving gut flora to restore skin health from within.
Yes. Ayurveda provides safe, gentle, and effective treatment for children using age-appropriate herbal formulations and dietary modifications. By correcting metabolism and immunity early, recurrence can be minimized as the child grows.
Yes, Eczema is often associated with asthma, allergic rhinitis, and food sensitivities. Ayurveda treats this as a systemic imbalance of immune and digestive function and corrects the root dysfunction rather than treating each symptom separately.
Inflammation in Eczema arises from immune hypersensitivity and toxin buildup, leading to redness, swelling, and itching. Ayurveda addresses this by pacifying aggravated doshas, cleansing the blood, and rejuvenating the skin at the cellular level for lasting calmness.
Biologic drugs suppress parts of the immune system responsible for inflammation, offering temporary relief. They are lab-modified proteins, not natural substances, and can cause side effects such as infections and autoimmune imbalance. Our Ayurvedic approach naturally regulates immunity and restores internal equilibrium safely.
Yes. Ayurvedic treatment can be safely combined with conventional medicines under supervision. Over time, as the body begins to heal naturally, dependency on chemical drugs can be reduced under expert guidance for safer, sustained results.
