Radicular pain is frequently the result of nerve compression or inflammation. When discomfort radiates down the back of the leg to the calf or foot, the condition is commonly known as sciatica. This form of pain is typically deep seated and constant, and is typically exacerbated by specific activities and positions, such as sitting or walking.
The pain typically follows the involved dermatome in the leg, which is the nerve's distribution area in the leg. When a nerve at the L4-5 or L5-S1 level is affected (the two lowest levels), the sciatic nerve, which travels down the back of each leg to the foot, is typically the dermatome that is affected.
Radicular pain may also be accompanied by numbness and tingling, muscle fatigue, and the absence of certain reflexes. When actual nerve dysfunction is observed (previously observed symptoms), this condition is known as "radiculopathy."
Radicular disc or radiculopathy disorders have symptoms such as numbness, tingling, or weakness in various areas, depending on which discs have been affected and how severely they have been damaged by trauma. Ayurveda is the optimal treatment for this issue due to the inherent risks of surgery.
According to Ayurveda, the symptoms of Radicular radiculopathy are the result of a Vata dosha imbalance. However, our Ayurvedic treatments for Radicular radiculopathy have helped numerous patients recover.
Ayurveda employs medications and Panchakarma remedies, such as medicated enema and Basti, to treat the symptoms of Radicular radiculopathy. There is no universally effective Ayurvedic treatment for cervical radiculopathy. Each method varies based on the individual's age and health, and it can be modified based on how well their bodies respond.

“The ayurvedic approach of disease looks for the root cause and not merely the symptoms. The basic principles of Ayurveda consider an individual human a specific identity and hence his treatment giving importance to the treatment of the patient rather than the treatment of the disease.”
“Since Ayurveda focuses on the root-cause of the disease, it effectively reduces the risk of severe health complications arising out of the untreated underlying cause. Patients who complete their Ayurveda treatment have a reduced risk of health complications later.”

Radicular pain radiates along the path of a specific spinal nerve root into the lower extremity/body. Sciatica (pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve - down the back of the thigh and calf into the foot) is the most prevalent symptom of radicular pain. Sciatica is one of the most prevalent types of pain resulting from the compression of a spinal nerve in the low back. It is frequently a result of compression of the lower spinal nerve origins (L5 and S1).
In this condition, the leg pain is typically significantly worse than the low back pain, and the afflicted areas of the leg and/or foot depend on which nerve in the low back is affected. Compression of lumbar nerve roots L2, L3, and L4 can result in radicular pain in the front of the thigh and shin.
Lumbar disc disease is the medical term for any condition affecting the lumbar discs. Essentially, this term defines all spinal disc diseases, including bulging disc, degenerative disc, etc.
When any causative pressure dislodges the fluid, disc problems start to form. The entire process begins with nutrient deficiency, leading to bulging disc/herniated disc, etc.
Here are summaries of the conditions:
Degenerative Disc disease in Lumbar region
This is the first stage in solving any issue. When muscles continue to strain the lumbar spine. This causes pressure on the lumbar vertebrae of the spine.
Cartilages provide nutrition for the disc. These are the endplate cartilages, which are located on both the vertebrae above and below the disc. The pressure causes these cartilages to get damaged, along with their nutrition. This causes degenerative disc disease in the lumbar area.
Desiccated disc in Lumbar spine
When nutrition degrades, tissue detaches. This is the reason why disc desiccation exists.
The disc loses its elasticity and tissue begins to migrate to the sides. Thus, this is the initial phase of internal fluid slippage.
Lumbar Bulged disc
The shifting gelatin from the centre causes it to become "bulged" on one side. This bulge can cause nerve root compression in the beginning.
Up until this point, the external fibres are undamaged. There is no direct harm to the disc as far as rupture is concerned. Disc herniation is therefore the third level of the issue.
Herniated Lumbar Disc
Herniation means literally to protrude. This is the condition in which annular filaments are unable to withstand pressure, rupturing and releasing internal jelly into the canal. This condition is responsible for the neural compression that leads to severe symptoms.
All of these conditions result in a set of symptoms that provide insight into the nature of the problem. The majority of symptoms are a result of neural compression.
The spine contains many neural tissues. Therefore, when something goes wrong with the disc. The primary effect of a lumbar herniated disc is neural.
A bulging disc causes two forms of compression. The compression of the nerve root is identical to that of the level. And second, the next nerve root may be present. This occurs because the disc protrudes in two directions. When this bulge occurs on the lateral surfaces, the effect is the same. And second, canal stenosis occurs when this compression occurs in the centre of the canal.
Traversing Nerve Root: When a disc herniation or disc bulge is circumferential and more on the posterior side, this has an effect on the next nerve- traversing means that travels down the column.
Exiting Nerve Root Compression: As is common knowledge, each disc provides space for a nerve root at the same level. When disc bulge is more lateral (towards the sides), nerve root compression is occurring.
When diagnosing a lumbar disc problem, radiating pain in the lower extremity is the most important factor. When discomfort travels down the leg, everyone assumes it's sciatica. However, this is not entirely accurate in the case of medical science. This is not simply sciatica. There are two principal nerves that originate in the lumbar region. The Femoral Nerve and the Sciatic Nerve.
The Femoral Nerve has its origins in L2 and L4 vertebrae. This nerve travels up to the knee joint from the quadriceps.
Sciatic Nerve: The nerve is more well-known as a disease; sciatica is unrelated to the femoral. This nerve originates between the levels L4 and S1.
The Femoral nerve is more concerned with the front of the leg, whereas the Sciatic nerve is more concerned with the rear. Stretching either of these fibres causes pain.
In the SLR test, for instance, bending the pelvis with the straight leg stretches the Sciatic nerve and relaxes the Femoral. So, when the SLR test reveals an increase in pain, it is the Sciatic nerve root from the lumbar disc that is affected. In contrast, if the discomfort is alleviated by SLR, this indicates the Femoral Nerve.
When a lumbar disc problem affects the L4 nerve root, however, it can cause symptoms in both the sciatic and femoral nerves. Because this L4 lumbar nerve root is common to both nerves.
Ayurveda treats a disease in two ways:
To address the underlying cause of the issue.
By balancing the dosha's characteristics.
In this case, both factors contribute to the treatment of the condition.
In the event of degeneration, we must halt the degeneration process and replenish the discs more effectively. In order to reverse the procedure.
Where there is excessive pressure: In such situations, it is essential to relieve pressure from the disc.
Rigidity contributing to the problem: Where muscle rigidity and discomfort exist, it is necessary to make these areas smooth.
When toxins accumulate in muscle - We work on eliminating these toxins from the musculature.
