Effectively Heal Neurogenic Claudication Condition

Why EliteAyurveda

How are we able to Treat Neurogenic claudication?

Neurogenic claudication in your legs can occur when nerves in your lower back become squeezed. Neurogenic claudication is distinguished by the following features:
Constant leg discomfort and/or numbness while standing
Pain and/or numbness in your legs after walking long distances or bending your spine backwards
Difficulty carrying out upright workouts or activities
Rest alleviates or eliminates discomfort and/or numbness.
Pain from neurogenic claudication is usually eased by bending your spine forward (as when leaning on a shopping cart/walker, squatting, or sitting and leaning forward).
This pain will most likely need to be distinguished from vascular claudication, which might mirror neurogenic claudication.

In Ayurveda, the mode of treatment of Neurogenic claudication is to balance the vitiated dosha and eliminate the toxins accumulated in the channels. The treatment may include detoxification by various panchakarma procedures, abhyanga massage, herbal pottali massage, purgation and mild herbal enema along with classic ayurveda herbal medications. These procedures help in relieving pain and reversing the symptoms of Neurogenic claudication.
At EliteAyurveda, our team of specialists provides effective Ayurvedic treatment through the full spectrum of Ayurvedic remedies and therapies. Incorporating Ayurvedic therapy and yoga also contributes to the holistic rehabilitation of patients.

Root Cause Treatment

“The ayurvedic approach of disease looks for the root cause and not merely the symptoms. The basic principles of Ayurveda consider an individual human a specific identity and hence his treatment giving importance to the treatment of the patient rather than the treatment of the disease.”

Wisdom of Ayurveda

“Since Ayurveda focuses on the root-cause of the disease, it effectively reduces the risk of severe health complications arising out of the untreated underlying cause. Patients who complete their Ayurveda treatment have a reduced risk of health complications later.”

More Than Just Medicines

"Heal your body naturally with 5000-year-old knowledge of Ayurveda and Modern Science. From its authenticity, structured approach and personalisation play a very important role in complementing the effect of medicines as well as sustaining the benefit of treatment after the medicines have ended."

Understand how we can help you with Neurogenic claudication

Symptoms of Neurogenic Claudication

Neurogenic claudication is characterized by pain in the nerves, typically in both legs. Although there may also be pain in the lower back or buttocks, the pain in the legs will be more prominent.

Among the symptoms of neurogenic claudication are:

Sharp, shooting, or aching pain extending into the lower extremities
Numbness, tingling, or burning sensations
Leg fatigue and weakness
A sensation of leg heaviness
Leg cramping

Neurogenic claudication differs from other forms of leg pain in that the pain is intermittent and exacerbated by particular movements or activities. On the one hand, standing, walking, descending stairs, and flexing the spine backward can cause discomfort. In contrast, squatting, ascending stairs, and leaning forward tend to alleviate pain.

Over time, neurogenic claudication can impair a person's mobility as they avoid activities that cause pain, such as exercise, lifting heavy objects, and protracted walking.

In extreme instances, neurogenic claudication can make sleeping difficult and can even cause loss of bladder or bowel control due to the compression of nerves that control these functions.

Why does neurogenic claudication occur?

The most common cause of neurogenic claudication is spinal stenosis, also known as pseudoclaudication. This is a narrowing of the space surrounding the lower vertebrae, which can exert direct pressure on the spinal cord. Additionally, it can compress the blood vessels surrounding the spine, depriving the spine of oxygen-rich blood. Either of these two possibilities can produce lower back pain that radiates down the legs, along with weakness, tingling, or numbness in the legs and feet. It can also make it difficult to control your bowels and bladder.
An important distinction between vascular and neurogenic claudication is the ability to alleviate discomfort. People with neurogenic claudication report that leaning forward alleviates the discomfort. This is known as the "shopping cart sign" due to its resemblance to the posture of a person carrying a shopping cart, and it is not observed in individuals with vascular claudication.

Ayurveda for Neurogenic claudication

Ayurvedic Medications

Ayurveda does not recommend the use of painkillers to treat degenerative disc-related pain. Here, the primary goal of ayurvedic treatment is to restore balance to the aggravated doshas. Because, according to Ayurveda, these doshas cause spinal disc issues. When we balance the doshas, things begin to return to normal.

Panchakarma Treatment

Panchakarma treatment is an excellent alternative to surgery for a herniated disc. It is the ultimate therapeutic experience and is designed to revitalise the body. The treatment consists of Virechana, Basti, Kati basti, Pottali, Swedana, and Dhanyamla dhara, amongst others. These therapies aid in muscle relaxation by increasing blood circulation.

Therapeutic Yoga Positions

After Panchkarma therapy, we administer yoga therapy for total healing. Yoga treatment is highly effective and a wonderful addition to medication. These yoga asanas are an excellent method to eliminate spinal issues. We have yoga instructors who instruct patients in various asanas and other relaxation poses. The poses are performed entirely under our supervision for multiple days.
