Here are ten herbs and spices that you should use every day. Combine with other Ayurvedic ways to improve your health and well-being, such as changing your food, making good lifestyle choices, and staying active.
1. Ajwain—Digestion
Ajwain is a strong nerve stimulant and stomach aid. It helps people lose weight by drawing out toxins from deep inside the body. Ajwain can also heal sore joints and problems with vata.
Ajwain tea may help you lose weight. Instead of green tea, boil one teaspoon of ajwain seeds in 16 ounces of water.
2. Ashwagandha—Vitality
Ashwagandha is one of the best herbs to help you stay young. It gives you more energy and is very important for people who work too much or are stressed out.
Take 1/2 teaspoon and cook it in milk. Add 1 teaspoon of raw honey to make it sweet. Note that when Ayurvedic herbs are taken with healthy fats like ghee, butter, or raw whole milk, they can get deeper into the tissues and cells.
3. Brahmi: Good for the brain
Brahmi is the brain and nerve system’s best herb. It brings the left and right sides of the brain into balance and gets rid of calcium from the pineal gland. It is tri-doshic, which means it is good for all three doshas, but it is especially good for levelling out high pitta.
Brahmi cleans out the nervous system of poisons and blockages. It helps with depression, makes you smarter, and makes your mind and ability to focus better. It is also great for making hair grow.
Every morning, eat brahmi to wake up your body and mind. Boil the leaves of brahmi in water or milk to make tea or brahmi ghee. You can cook with the ghee or use it as a healing oil for your hair. The nutrients will get into the brain cells through the crown chakra.
4. Cardamom—Tranquilizer
Cardamom is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant because it is full of phytonutrients. It gets rid of the acidity in coffee, caffeine, and milk, and stops milk from making mucus. Cardamom gets rid of kapha that has built up in the stomach and lungs.
Cardamom oil makes the nervous system work better. It can be a natural way to calm down and help with things like stress, sadness, anxiety, insomnia, and other nervous system problems.
For the best effects, add some cardamom pods or powder to your coffee as it’s brewing, or boil some cardamom in warm milk and drink it before bed.
5. Cumin—Acculturation

Instead of honey or sugar, you can sweeten hot tea with licorice root. You could also boil licorice root powder in milk and drink it before bed.
7. Manjistha—Purifying
Manjistha is the best herb used in Ayurvedic treatment to clean the blood. It reduces swelling, cleans the blood and stomach, and helps get rid of acne. Also, it cools and cleans the blood, and it cleans and controls how the liver and kidneys work.
If you have skin problems that are caused by too much pitta, take this herb in the form of capsules—two capsules in the morning and two capsules at night. You can also take it with warm milk before bedtime. Manjistha can also be put on the outside of the body as a face pack or to treat skin diseases.
8. Neem—Detox

9. Shatavari—Female Vitality
