A hair transplant is a revolutionary cosmetic surgery that involves the restoration of hair. It uses micrografting technology to donate your own hair follicles from the donor area, and those hair follicles are accepted by the recipient area. The results of this procedure are long-lasting and are considered permanent. The hair appears completely natural, and after the healing stage, the hair follicles grow with the same texture as the rest of your hair.
Many people face the issue of hair loss even after undergoing hair transplantation. Though the numbers are small, there are still people facing this issue. So what is the probable reason for this? Is it because of the trauma that one undergoes during surgery? Or is it due to some underlying condition?
Well, from what I have observed in my career of over 15 years, the problem is not with the surgery, but rather with the composition and genetic makeup of an individual. Even though a person may undergo cosmetic surgery and graft new hair, what remains constant is the body.
There may be an underlying cause due to which the body responds in the same manner as it used to do earlier. So will the hair transplantation process yield life-long results? How about working on the root cause of hair fall and maintaining the transplanted hair?
Ayurveda shares its wisdom in treating the condition of hair loss (also known as baldness or alopecia). Ideally, hair growth is a four phase cycle – anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen. So, for the hair to re-grow, it has to undergo these four stages. On an average, an individual loses about 100 hairs per day, which goes unnoticed as new hair grows at the same time. Hair loss occurs when the hair follicle is damaged, scarred or fails to regrow. This condition can now be temporary or permanent.
When it is permanent, the best option is hair transplantation. But now, here you have to be careful. If you notice the symptoms of hair fall again, you have to manage them.
But, “what are the causes of hair loss?”
There are several factors that cause hair loss-
1.Heredity
2.Hormonal changes due to menopause, thyroid problems, or pregnancy
3.Intake of certain medications or supplements
4.Cancer therapy sessions
5.Stress or emotional/physical trauma
6.Poor lifestyle
Ayurveda helps in managing these reasons that cause hair loss. It is a holistic medicinal branch that reverses the condition from the root cause. So, even if your hair is shedding after hair transplantation, you need not worry. You can manage them in a natural way.
Let’s now see “how ayurveda helps to treat hair loss after hair transplantation”.
This further depends on individual body composition. The hair type depends on an individual’s composition of tridoshas. So, we shall classify treatment procedures accordingly.
Hair Type | Characteristics |
Vata-type hair | Thin in volume, coarse in texture, curly |
Pitta-type hair | Moderately thick, soft texture, straight |
Kapha-type hair | Coarse in texture, full and thick in volume, curly |
If any dosha in the body is vitiated, it may lead to hair loss and hair thinning. This imbalance in doshas may be due to deeper health conditions.
1.Ways to manage vata vitiated hair
Regular Ayurvedic oil massage, or abhyanga, is crucial for people with Vata dosha to preserve overall health. Abhyanga should preferably be done twice a week, if not more frequently. Long, strong strokes with the oil should be used to massage your entire body. After leaving the oil on for a while, rinse it off with lukewarm water.
Additionally, it’s critical to frequently oil your hair three to four times a week. Wrapping your hair in towels soaked in warm water will help keep the oil in your hair for at least twenty minutes.
After that, rinse the oil off with a mild shampoo that has no chemicals at all. The finest oils to use for massaging Vata hair types are almond or sesame oil.
2.Ways to manage pitta vitiated hair
Maintaining a cool body and mind can help to balance the Pitta dosha. Using coconut oil, which has natural cooling characteristics, to massage the head and scalp is a fantastic way to do this.
Additionally, you should regularly consume large amounts of water to keep your body and mind cool and hydrated. Amalaki paste application is one powerful pitta dosha remedy. This promotes the removal of toxins while also cooling the head and preserving the hair’s natural colour. It also controls hair loss.
3.Ways to manage kapha vitiated hair
Kapha hair needs to be washed frequently to keep the oil under control due to its propensity to get oily. Weekly head massages with mustard or olive oil are also beneficial. Due to the high dandruff susceptibility of Kapha hair, it’s crucial to use a superior herbal hair cleaner to completely clean the scalp. For instance, you can make a strong hair rinse with triphala powder and water and apply it to your hair and scalp twice a week for cleaning.
Besides this, Ayurveda also suggests maintaining a healthy diet, managing stress, and lifestyle habits to manage the hair loss after transplantation.
