Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most frequently discussed problems these days, particularly among persons over the age of 50. Here are a few myths regarding this:

Myth #1 – “Pain is better than cure”

Even if this may be true in other cases, it is not applicable in this case. Ayurveda offers both curative and preventive strategies for knee osteoarthritis that are free of negative effects. Gone are the days when allopathic medicine was regarded superior and Ayurveda was considered “backward.” With the passage of time, more people realised the significance of a holistic and ‘lifestyle-based’ approach to arthritis treatment.

Myth 2 – “There is no cure”

Take note that I indicated there may be no solution for you if you go to an untrustworthy medical store or someone who has not even completed their 12th board examinations! Only an expert doctor who understands your problem well enough to aid you with effective management can make a good diagnosis.

Myth 3: “Arthritis is a normal part of getting older.”

This is categorically false. It is referred to as ‘Unnatural Ageing’. With the correct treatments and care, you can easily slow down or even prevent the onset of osteoarthritis.

Myth 4: “In Ayurveda, there are no cures for osteoarthritis.”

Completely incorrect! Ayurvedic remedies have been used for thousands of years and have been shown to be effective in treating a variety of ailments. Ayurveda recognises that this ailment is caused by an imbalance in your body’s tissues (or dhatus) and thus offers solutions to fix it. There is no one-size-fits-all method to treating knee osteoarthritis, but there are several tried and established solutions that can be used efficiently.

Myth 5: “Ayurvedic treatments have no side effects.”

As with any medicine, there are several precautions that must be taken before and during an Ayurvedic course of therapy. You don’t want any additional troubles because you weren’t cautious enough! A skilled doctor would recommend all precautions as well as a dosha-specific treatment plan.

Myth 6: “Ayurveda is completely natural.”

This is absolutely correct! However, it should be noted that the majority of medicines are based on natural ingredients such as herbs. The processing processes may include heating them at times, however this is done to boost potency and bioavailability. A skilled Ayurvedic doctor will explain this in detail and help you understand why each phase of your treatment plan is necessary.

Myth #7: “Ayurveda is only for persons with a “weak constitution.”

This is completely false! Ayurveda is innovative in that it works for everyone. Ayurveda has its own set of guidelines to maintain maximum health, whether you are strong or weak, fit or unfit, healthy or unwell. In fact, in the vast majority of cases (see below), the solution is “preventive” rather than “curative!”
